This is the appalling tale of the Tennessee Children’s Home Society told in fiction format, but based on true events. This historical fiction is heartbreaking, riveting and will give you all the feels. The alternating points of view from the past to the present worked well to weave together the stories of the stolen “orphaned” children. From the abuse and neglect they endured, to how they were sold to turn a profit(while tearing families apart for generations) to touching on the destruction learning the truth as adults brought about. The aftermath is enormous and it is almost unfathomable that this was overlooked for so many years. This story was hard to put down even as it was breaking my heart. It left me eager to learn more about the scandal of Georgia Tann and wondering how many children never found their way back to where their hearts belonged. |
